Certain portals remain inaccessible until the player reaches a required level or completes a set of objectives.

Although Sonic Speed Simulator includes references to Sonic characters and environments, the game does not rely on a traditional story campaign. Instead, progression is tied to exploration, leveling systems, and unlockable content. Players can collect different playable characters from the Sonic franchise through quests and event rewards.
