Every session changes due to procedural generation, meaning room placement, item locations, and navigation routes are different each time the game starts.
The gameplay is built around exploration and movement through hallways, classrooms, faculty rooms, and special event areas. Players search for notebooks required to complete the current floor while listening carefully for Baldi’s movements. The ruler sound used by Baldi remains one of the main danger indicators inside the school. As progression continues, enemy behavior becomes more aggressive and navigating the building becomes more difficult because additional characters begin interfering with movement and exploration.
BB+ introduces a floor-based structure where each level of the Super Schoolhouse contains new layouts and increasing difficulty. Earlier floors are smaller and easier to navigate, while later sections become larger and introduce more hazards, characters, and environmental changes. Elevators connect different floors and serve as transition points between stages.
The game also includes random events that can suddenly alter gameplay conditions. Some events affect lighting and visibility, while others modify character speed or create unusual movement effects throughout the school. Because these systems appear unpredictably, players often need to change strategy during the middle of a run.
Several systems work together to create pressure during exploration and notebook collection.
Items collected during exploration can help players escape dangerous situations or create temporary advantages. Since inventory space is restricted, choosing which tools to keep becomes an important decision.
Players control movement from a first-person perspective while opening doors, collecting notebooks, and avoiding enemies throughout the building. Sprinting is useful for escaping danger, but excessive movement noise can attract Baldi faster. Some characters also force the player into mini-games or block important hallways, creating additional navigation problems.
