Pikuniku is a puzzle-adventure game developed by Sectordub and published by Devolver Digital. The player controls Piku, a red character with long legs, and moves through a world where the friendly look hides a larger problem. The story follows Piku as he meets local residents, helps them with tasks, and learns about a plan connected to collecting the land’s resources.
The game has a story, but it is not told through long cutscenes. Instead, the player learns about the world by talking to villagers, entering new areas, and completing small objectives. At first, Piku appears as an outsider, but the character gradually becomes involved in the problems of the community. The main conflict grows from local requests into a wider situation involving Mr. Sunshine and his machines.
Pikuniku does not use standard action levels focused on fighting. The gameplay combines exploration, platforming, and environmental puzzles. Piku can walk, jump, roll into a ball, swing from hooks, move through pipes, use minecarts, and kick objects or characters. Many puzzles are based on moving items, pressing switches, opening paths, and reaching places that were blocked before.
The game includes several main elements:
· connected areas with puzzle-based progress;
· conversations with villagers and other characters;
· movement based on jumping, rolling, kicking, and swinging;
· switches, doors, pipes, hooks, and interactive objects;
· coins and optional cosmetic items such as hats;
· local co-op stages with a second character, Niku.
The main adventure is single-player, but the game also includes local cooperative content. In co-op, two players control Piku and Niku and work together to reach the end of each stage. These levels are separate from the main story and focus more directly on coordination, movement, and solving shared obstacles.
To play Pikuniku, the player explores each area, talks to characters, uses Piku’s movement abilities, and solves puzzles to open new routes. The game does not rely on character stats, equipment builds, or complex combat systems. Progress comes from understanding how objects interact, helping the inhabitants, collecting useful items, and continuing through the story until the larger problem in the world is resolved.
