Out of the Ink Machine

Out of the Ink Machine is a canceled mod for Bendy and The Ink Machine that centers on a new character named Oliver, or Ollie. Unlike other ink creatures, Ollie actively communicates with the player, repeatedly urging them to “follow the path” and release him from the Ink Machine. Once freed, he begins to pursue the player, breaking down barriers or disappearing into the ink to reappear unexpectedly. The experience ends with a short scene after the credits, where Ollie holds the axe and signals silence, implying the story isn’t finished.

Ollie’s Presence in Gameplay and Concept

Ollie is also found in a modified prototype of the original game, randomly spawning to hunt the player. Although his physical form doesn’t always appear, his cutouts act aggressively and can crash the game. In Chapter 1, Ollie resembles a distorted version of Bendy with altered facial features. Concept art from the canceled Chapter 2 revealed his true form as a paper mache slug, hidden beneath a layer of ink. This version was meant to appear only once, giving a quick glimpse into the deeper horror behind his character.

A Character Built on Nostalgia and Control

Ollie’s behavior suggests manipulation and self-awareness. He questions the player’s memory of the game, challenges their perception of reality, and even breaks the fourth wall by addressing the player’s system name. Developers described him as the only truly alive entity in the game, created as a symbol of obsessive nostalgia and the desire to reshape the past. His unsettling lines and hidden meanings reflect a commentary on fandom, memory, and the nature of digital permanence.
