Each level begins from the house, which operates as a hub rather than a normal stage. The player can examine open rooms and select entrances connected to corrupted objects. New sections of the house become accessible after earlier challenges have been cleared. Fully collecting a level’s magic reverses its transformation, so the hub gradually returns to its original condition as the campaign progresses.
Movement includes running, jumping, gliding, and performing a ground slam. Gliding with the umbrella helps the Cat cross long gaps and control his descent toward smaller platforms. The same umbrella is used for close-range attacks. Some enemies and explosive substances can be captured in bubbles, carried through the environment, and thrown at distant targets or mechanisms.
Optional and required items include:
The game contains ten primary stages, several machine-based boss fights, a bonus stage, and the hidden Mystical Mirror level. Normal stages combine enemy encounters with moving platforms, pits, switches, and routes located outside the direct path. Players can reach an exit without collecting everything, but missed magic prevents complete restoration of that world. Every gem must be obtained to unlock the secret stage, giving the keys and bonus doors a purpose beyond the main story.
The Cat begins with five health points. Enemy attacks, projectiles, and contact with environmental hazards reduce this amount, while falling into a pit removes a life. Checkpoints prevent the entire stage from restarting after every mistake, but losing all available lives sends the player back to its beginning. Boss encounters require a different strategy from ordinary combat. Quinn’s machine cannot be damaged by hitting its exterior, so the Cat must avoid attacks until an opportunity appears. Captured ammunition is then launched into the exposed exhaust. Winning these battles provides Crablock pieces and opens the route toward later parts of the house. Thorough exploration before leaving each stage reduces the need to return for missing collectibles.
